Liverpool have continued their preparations for the 2026-27 Women’s Super League season with a week-long training camp in Wales as Gareth Taylor puts his squad through the next stage of pre-season.
The Reds arrived in Cardiff on Sunday before settling into the Vale Resort, where they will spend the week focusing on fitness, tactical work and team-building ahead of the new campaign.
Liverpool has also shared images from the opening sessions, with the squad back on the training pitch as preparations gather pace.
The camp comes at an important stage of pre-season, giving Taylor and his coaching staff the chance to increase the intensity of training away from the AXA Melwood Training Centre before the team’s upcoming fixtures.
Away from the training ground, Liverpool have also seen movement in the transfer market, with Leanne Kiernan completing a permanent move to Newcastle United Women for an undisclosed fee.
The Magpies had been linked with a move for the forward and have now secured her signature.
Kiernan played a significant role in Liverpool’s FA Women’s Championship-winning campaign in 2021-22, finishing as the club’s top scorer as the Reds secured promotion back to the Women’s Super League.
The 27-year-old signed a new contract with Liverpool in 2025 but spent the second half of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, where she continued to gain regular playing time before completing her move to Newcastle.
Kiernan arrives at Newcastle with plenty of experience at both club and international level. Since making her senior debut for the Republic of Ireland in 2017, she has earned 38 international caps and established herself as an important member of the national team.
Speaking after the transfer was confirmed, Kiernan said she was excited to begin a new chapter in her career and described the move as the right opportunity:
“I’m really excited. I’m looking forward to a fresh start and meeting the fans. It was a dream of mine to come and play professionally and to go to a club like Newcastle, it really felt right when the contact came in.
“I would say I’m a quick attacker in behind, so I feel like I can bring my strengths and hopefully score loads of goal to help the team out.”
The Republic of Ireland international brings an end to her five-year spell at Liverpool after making 76 appearances and scoring 23 goals in all competitions.
